Our Story

Nestled away, among the foothills of the Black Mountains in rural Herefordshire, sits the Field & Found studio contained within a very tiny off-grid wagon.

Field & Found was created by husband and wife team Victoria and Simon Whitfield. Together we design, make, curate and sell Sustainable workwear and Apparel.

Victoria & Simon Whitfield

In the summer of 2014 we were living off-grid in a 40ft Tinyhouse we had designed and built by hand in the wilds of Herefordshire.

We are both strongly creative and are passionate about living a more self sufficient lifestyle. With two toddlers in tow we wanted to create a family business that expressed our creativity whilst staying true to a more sustainable way of living for our future.
After many years working as designers & craftspeople within our own respective trades, we set out on a new venture, to create a clothing brand that could encompass the values that we had come to live by; sustainability, practicality, longevity and beauty. It was these four values that have lead the design of each and every one of our products ever since.

A FAMILY BUSINESS

Our designs draw influence from our surrounding country community and many creative friends, alongside our own love of outdoor living, homegrown food, cooking, gardening & creative pursuits. For this very reason - Over the years our workwear has become a firm favourite with a wide range of crafts people, artists, chefs and gardeners.

Origins…

Victoria is a fashion designer, a seamstress, a mother and a keen amateur gardener. As an avid advocate of sustainable fashion practices she is passionate about creating well designed, covetable, low-impact clothing and workwear that can be worn every day as a part of a well loved staple wardrobe. Each garment is designed, cut , stitched and finished single handedly by Victoria, from the Field & Found tinyhouse studio.

Simon is a carpenter, tiny-house builder, food-grower, teacher and chef. He works with Victoria on design development, admin and stall construction and when he’s not in the office he is generally to be found in the kitchen or greenhouse where he’s at his happiest.

Our Designs

Every piece in our range is made with great care and attention to detail; from design, through to pattern cutting, sewing and finishing.

Our ethos is strongly rooted in the principals of practicality, longevity, beauty and sustainability. We only use natural fabrics that are sourced for their provenance and quality, that handle and age well, to create garments contemporary in design with a classical British edge

The Studio Wagon

Victoria and Simon started building the studio-wagon in the Spring of 2019, in an effort to combine their design skills and shared passion for beautiful, practical spaces.

Using a combination of locally sourced timber and reclaimed materials, It was finished the following year and has since been in daily use as the Field & Found studio space.

Simon now teaches short courses in Tinyhouse building through the Black Mountains College. For more infomation see here.
